Sheridan Park at Spring Creek Kitchen

How to Properly Clean Stainless Steel Appliances

Sheridan Park at Spring Creek KitchenHaving stainless steel appliances in your kitchen can be a real luxury, but keeping them clean and clear of smudges, fingerprints, and grime can sometimes be a challenge. Fortunately, by following some basic tips, you can keep your stainless steel appliances looking their best with minimal effort and without the need for expensive cleaning products.

Go With the Grain

Most people don’t realize it, but stainless steel (like wood) has a grain; you can see the direction of the grain by looking closely for thin lines moving in one direction. When cleaning your stainless steel, wiping in the direction of the grain will minimize smudges and result in a cleaner, more polished look. You’re not going to do any harm by cleaning against the grain, though! And there are no special cleaning supplies needed; a little bit of dish soap and water will clean your stainless steel appliances just fine and is gentle enough to use regularly.

Use a Microfiber Towel

Paper towels and traditional dishcloths tend to leave behind a lot of lint when wiping down stainless steel, so for the best results, try using a microfiber towel or cloth when cleaning your appliances. This will leave the least amount of lint and result in the most polished finish. You can also use a disinfecting wipe on most stainless steel surfaces (tends to be quicker and easier than using dish soap and water), though you may need to go over it with a microfiber towel to pick up any residual lint and debris.

Polish With Baby Oil

If you really want to make your stainless steel shine, apply a tiny amount of baby oil to the stainless steel surface after you’re done cleaning. A little bit goes a long way here, so start with just a drop or two and distribute with a clean microfiber towel or rag for the best results. When applying oil, be sure to do so with the grain, just as you did when cleaning the surface.

At Sheridan Park at Spring Creek apartments in Plano, TX, floor plans feature not only stainless steel appliances but white kitchen cabinets and a beautiful glass tile backsplash. For more information on our community and amenities, contact us today!

Sheridan Park at Spring Creek Living Room

Tips for Choosing and Hanging Artwork

Sheridan Park at Spring Creek Living RoomNo matter where you are living, you do not want to be surrounded by boring walls. However, choosing the right artwork can sometimes be a challenge. Even when you do find the right artwork, you still have to hang it up properly. Before you do anything, make sure you use these tips to make sure you do the artwork and your wall justice.

Tips for Choosing and Hanging Artwork

  • Trust your instinct. When you are looking for the ideal artwork for your home, you should always go with your gut. If you like something, you should get it. If you do not like it now, you will not like it once it is hung up.
  • Scale is important. It is also important to consider the scale of the artwork and the space you have available for it. You do not want it to take up too much space or be too small with a lot of wall space around it. Find the right artwork that will take up the right amount of space on a wall and will look good in the room.
  • Hang it at eye level. When you are thinking of where you want your artwork to be on the wall, you should always hang it so that it is at eye level. You want it to blend into the room and not look down on it or have to look up to see it. Typically, this is about 57 inches from the floor but it can vary depending on the size of the artwork.
  • Think of the space. You have a lot of areas that you can hang your artwork and you should think of this before you hang anything. Some good places for artwork would be over your bed, in a hallway, over a nightstand, or other areas where you cannot use the floor for another type of decoration.

It is important to take your time with this task because you want the artwork to look great on your walls. If you are looking for a new place to call home, be sure to come check out our apartments in Plano to see what we have available and to take a tour.

1418 Coffeehouse

Much of what makes a good coffee shop is in the details. This place not only has excellent brews and food, but also a cool decor and plenty of seating and parking. The ambiance is laid-back and the whole vibe is unmistakably inviting.

Cafe Bohemia

Like the name of this coffee shop suggests, this spot celebrates the art and artistry of many of the city’s residents. While you may not see a lot of businessmen in suits anxiously staring at their watches, you will see a lot of people who are enjoying themselves. Case in point, the shop doesn’t even open until noon. Definitely come on a weekend if you have a boss that’s strict about tardiness.

Debi’s Cafe Bistro

Some places definitely concentrate more on food than coffee, but this local favorite does a great job at splitting the difference between the two. This place may only be open for breakfast on the weekend, but its allure of the S’mores Waffle with a cup of coffee is hard to beat. Plus, people love the friendly atmosphere of the owner and staff.

XO Coffee Company

Exotic Cat

5 Exotic Cat Breeds You Need to Know About

Exotic CatSheridan Park at Spring Creek apartments in Plano is a pet-friendly community and we love our four-legged residents. If you are a cat lover just like us, check out these five exotic, out of the ordinary cat breeds. Believe it or not, they can actually be legally owned as pets and are great fun!

Servals

Servals resemble cheetahs but are much smaller. They are quiet and aloof, which means they don’t require the continual affection that some other cat breeds thrive on. Servals are tolerant of other pets in the home and have an amazing jumping ability but do need regular exercise to avoid excessive weight gain.

Fishing Cats

Fishing cats, unlike almost all other cats, enjoy playing in the water. They aren’t common but can legally be owned as pets. Even so, they don’t get along quite well with other cat breeds.

Geoffroy’s Cats

Geoffroy’s cats are an adaptable cat species from South America. They can handle extreme temperatures but are shy and like a quiet, peaceful environment.

Jungle Cats

Jungle cats require space and a quiet atmosphere. Jungle cats can live for up to 20 years and have a fierce stare that is sure to capture your attention. This cat species also used to produce hybrids with domesticated cats, such as ‘Chausie’ and ‘Jungle bob.’

Hybrid Cats

These hybrid cats include the Savannah cat, Chausie, Bengal cat and Safari cat. Contrary to popular misconception, hybrid cats make great pets if given plenty of exercise and have the patience needed to put up with their strong personality.

Wine and Cheese

Tips for Hosting a Wine and Cheese Party

Wine and CheeseFew things go better together than wine and cheese, which helps explain why wine and cheese parties are so popular! If you are thinking about hosting your own wine and cheese party, it can be helpful to know how to get started. We have gathered some helpful pointers on how to host a party that satisfies both you and your guests. Read on to learn more.

4 Pointers for Your Next Wine and Cheese Party

1. Encourage Guests to Bring Their own Favorite Pairings

The best thing about wine and cheese parties is that everyone is able to discover new combinations that they may have never found on their own. Let all your guests know to bring a wine and cheese that they love having together. Keep in mind that some of your guests may be new to wine and cheese, so you should have a few proven combinations that you can advise guests to bring if they do not have a favorite pairing.

2. Make Sure You Have all the Accouterments

You will need at least 20 glasses for a party of 12 people. This is for replacements for possible breaks, separate glasses for red and white wine for those that care and extras in case someone else shows up. Pick up some fresh fruit, like grapes and strawberries, some cured meats such as salami, and a variety of cheeses—including a blue, a soft cheese and an aged cheese. Having a variety of wines available is important too, including reds, whites and sparkling wines.

3. Research Some Classic Pairings

The more you know about pairing wine and cheese, the better you will be able to guide your guests. Try to research at least two or three classic pairings and have them available for your guests.

4. Invite One or More Knowledgeable Guests

You do not have to do all the heavy lifting on your own. If you know anyone with extensive wine or cheese knowledge, invite them to the party. It can be great fun to be taken along on a tasting journey by a knowledgeable guide.

Eucalyptus

Surprisingly easy to grow and care for indoors, this plant has an appealing and noticeable scent that will waft through your whole home. Snip leaves as needed for sachets or decoration or just enjoy the plant as it grows; either way, this indoor beauty will enhance your home.

Bonsai Trees

Enjoy delicate beauty on a desk or tabletop; you can invest in a premade bonsai or learn to cultivate your own. Either way, these stunning, pint-sized pieces will enhance your home and add a burst of color to your space.
